Sunday Sleep Over

What were we thinking?????? No, actually it was very fun! We had seven little grandchildren under the age of 8 in our small 1000 sq. ft. condo over night! Whew!

We normally have them over in smaller groups, but that couldn't be arranged this time. We just didn't have enough days.

They ate pizza for dinner, but really was not interested in eating. They wanted to get right to the part of playing games or watching videos. The girls: Emily, Anna, Gwynny, Ashley and Leah all decided on watching Shrek The Third. They had all seen the movie, but it was the choice of all since it was the latest movie out.

The two boys: Quincy and JJ stayed in the den and played something. I never did go in and find out what they were up to. They came in to check on the girls every so often, and invited them to join them in their games, but I put a stop to that. We had five little girls content and happy, and I didn't want that messed up.

The girls slept on the floor wrapped up with blankets and the boys were on the spare bed in the den. They didn't go to sleep as quickly as Mike and I did, but at least they didn't cause any trouble, nor keep us awake.

They were at our home until after noon the following day, and they were good and found some quiet activities to play. We only had one problem and that was that we didn't take good enough care of our new wood kitchen table. One or two little girls had spilled water and the finish is ruined in two places. I hope we can figure out how to fix it when we get back there in the spring.

Mike's brother Darrell who lives in Washington came by to visit. He brought his trombone, and let all the kids have a turn blowing into it. It was a nice day.

An Unconventional Christmas Eve

Lisa had everyone over two nights in a row. She did this because Amy couldn't be there except for an hour or so Sunday night and Chris couldn't be there at all Monday night.

The kitchen was loaded with good food and while they were finalizing the dinner the movie "Griswold's Christmas" was on the TV. The one where the cat gets fried. We laughed and hoped the kids were missing the few inappropriate moments of the movie. They were so involved with other things that none seemed to pay any attention.

After dinner we began the important moment of the evening, opening gifts. The gifts were mostly for the eight grandchildren who were present, and they enjoyed themselves immensely.

After that Mike read the Christmas Story from Luke in the bible. Our Christmas story is a little different since we have so many little girls and they all want to be Mary. Last year there were even more little girls and so to make everyone happy there were four Mary's! When the reader, Jake got to the part of Joseph and Mary, he said, "And Joseph, and Mary, and Mary, and Mary, and Mary - - - and then continued on with the story. This went on every time Jake got to the part of Joseph and Mary.

This year we only had two Mary's, but we had three angels of the Lord. So the story went like this, "and Joseph and Mary and Mary, and the angel, and the angel, and the angel, and so it went. We didn't want the program to be irreverent, but it was funny.

What may have been a little irreverent was that we had two baby Jesus'. One was a bald doll dressed in pink pajama's. Hey, you never know! And the other one was a stuffed animal, which was a monkey that Mike and I gave Ashley as one of her presents. She wouldn't put it down, and insisted that her baby was baby Jesus too.

There were a few snickers when Lisa and Sherri noticed one of the angels picking her nose. And the snickers got louder when the angel made it clear she hadn't had enough to eat at dinner time. Or maybe it was an additional dessert. Mike was oblivious to the reason for the snickers and seemed a little put out that people were laughing during his story.

Earlier in the evening, Amy had given her mom (I'm Amy's step-mom) a four-roll pack of toilet paper as one of her Christmas presents. She told her there was one roll for each cheek.

During the story we needed a manger for the baby Jesus and someone threw one of the Mary's the toilet paper. It made a very nice comfy manger. The other Mary and the monkey didn't seem to mine that there weren't two mangers. Maybe it's because Ashley is only three.

It wasn't long before one of the Mary's started picking her nose too. She was the sister of the Angel. Must run in the family. Actually, Sherri was getting a little embarrassed, even though she was laughing.

Well, that about ended our Christmas Eve. It snowed earlier that day and added to that amount that evening. Mike and I drove home in the new fallen snow to the song, "I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas", and fell into bed exhausted again.

I Love Christmas Celebrations!

I love going to church at Christmas time! I sat in church contemplating the birth of our Saviour and how much He means to me.

The musical program was wonderful during sacrament meeting, and the messages that were given during the meetings was wonderful!

Just one problem, Chris and Dave took us to dinner last night before the concert and I tried hard to choose foods that I wasn't allergic to, but I wasn't successful since I was deaf the whole day Sunday. I couldn't hear most of what was said during any of the three meetings I attended. It was disappointing, but the spirit was strong and I felt it.

Later we picked up Cari and was supposed to pick up Joey and Brandi also, but Joey called just before we left and said they weren't coming. Mike asked if they were still coming for dinner on Christmas day, and Joey said he didn't know, but would let us know later. I was very disappointed because I have only seen my great-grandson Austin a few times and he is 20 months old.

We told Cari that they weren't coming and she said, "I wish I had known that I wouldn't have brought their mail". That opened an opportunity. I suggested we stop there since it was on the way and give them their mail, and possibly I could see the baby. We did and Austin Jagger is absolutely adorable! I wanted to spend some time with him, but we weren't really invited in and were standing in the open doorway letting the cold in. We left hoping that they would indeed come on Tuesday.

Mary's Lamb

I didn't write this poem. It came as an email to me and it's well worth reading!

Mary's Lamb

Mary! had a little Lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T'wasn't even in the rule.

It made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became;
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name!

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into ! years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime,
That's in our schools today?
Let's let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!!

It is said that 86% of Canadian,
American & British people believe in God.
Why don't we just tell the other 14%
to be quiet and sit down????

Christmas Time

I love the Christmas season. Mike has Christmas music flowing though our home which gets me into the spirit.

I had no problem getting into the spirit when I was a child or when I was raising my children. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, but since our children are all grown, and we moved away from them during the winter, I need things to get me into the Christmas spirit. And Mike's enthusiasm getting the decorations and tree up, and his beautiful music does the trick.

We will go home on the 21st. to be with our family. I have a party with my friends that evening, and everyday to Jan 2, there is at least one party or something else going on. We will come home on the 4 of Jan, and I had a hard time finding a free day to schedule a needed doctor appointment to remove another skin cancer.

It's too Cold For Me

The temperature has fallen to the low 60's and will stay this way for a week. I know that doesn't seem cold to other people, but it is to me. I'm sitting under a blanket and my legs are cold and painful. Post polio patients have a terrible intolerance to cold.

I was reading an article on the web a month ago concerning this problem, and it gave lots of suggestions, one being to add more clothes. This doesn't work for me. I am not a very strong person which goes along with polio, and I can't carry the extra weight around without it taking my strength.

It looks sunny and warm out there. Some days it's actually warmer outside than it is in the house if you get right into the sun. I'll go try it and see if I can warm up.

Did You Watch Mitt Romney Yesterday?

I hope a lot of people watched Mitt Romney's speech that was given in Texas yesterday. He did a great job! I thought he looked like a president giving his inaugural speech.

I'm biased I guess, because I really like Mitt. I wondered how anyone could watch him and not be favorably impressed. I know many people were, but I have heard a few negative comments the last two days. I don't think there is anything Mitt can do to change those people's minds no matter what he said. They look very determined to dislike him, and intend to stay that way.

Thanksgiving 2007

Although we are away from our family for Thanksgiving this year, our daughter Lisa and her family made a surprise visit. And what a surprise it was for my dear hubby. She needed to let me know she was coming so I could make preparations, and it was harder than I thought it would be to keep it a secret from Mike. There were numerous occasions where I almost let the cat out of the bag.

Lisa, Shane, JJ, Leah, and Jaxon arrived about 5:30 PM Wednesday night. I was watching for them out the kitchen window while Mike and I cooked dinner. I had him made extra which he didn't catch on to. I guess he thought I wanted more the next day.

I had the kitchen blinds closed except for a tiny crack so I could see them. I didn't notice that Mike had left the kitchen. He went into our bedroom to close the blind and an apparition appeared in the window. There at the most perfect moment was Lisa, and the gang. Boy, was he shocked! He came back into the kitchen and exclaimed, "You won't believe who's here"!

We spent a wonderful weekend with them, and it made our Thanksgiving holiday seem like home again.

We had our own dinner the next day and joined John and Sherri and their family on Friday. Daniel and Jenny were eating Thursday with his family, and of course we wanted to be with them, so we ate again the following day with the family and another friend of theirs, Robyn and her three children whom we also ate with last year.

You just can't celebrate enough.

The Brown's Halloween

We weren't in Utah this year to celebrate Halloween with our grandchildren. In the past we had a Halloween party at our home and all the children and grandchildren came dressed for the occasion. Some of the costumes were unbelievably impressive. I need to find the pictures of some of the best costumes and post them.

These pictures are of Quincy who had several costumes this year, Anna, Gwyn, and Elyse. It looks like they had a wonderful Halloween.

A Cow On The Cow Parage For Our Granddaughters

I couldn't help but think of our little granddaughter's, Anna, Emily, Katie, Gwinney, Ashley, and Leah, when I saw this ballerina dancing cow. These girls are between the ages of 7 and 3 and think they are all princess's and ballerina dancers. Probably will be someday too.

We have two granddaughter who are a little over a year and just turned a year. Elyse and Lydia are not quite as excited about being princess's, they are princess's in the making.

Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride

While we were in Nauvoo one of the fun things we did was to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the quaint little town.

It looks beautiful here in the picture, but it just happened to be the only day we were there that it was cold. We were all wrapped up in blankets. The weather was gorgeous the rest of the time, with temperatures in the 70's. I think it would have been pleasant this day also, if it weren't for a cold wind that was blowing.

And to add to the frustration, I was having one of my deaf days. It was after that that I learned I was allergic to onions and nuts, and I ate them through-out the whole trip. So unfortunately, I didn't hear what the tour guide was telling us as we traveled through the streets. The clip, clop of the horses hooves, and the wind, would have made it difficult without my hearing problem, but between the three problems I missed every word. I enjoyed the ride though.

The Book "The Truth About Hillary"

Mike took this picture of me while we were on our 15-day trip throughout the midwest and eastern states. I read several books during our travels and when we were in Nauvoo, Missouri visiting with Mike's brother Ray and his wife Colleen, I saw this book in their bookshelf. I asked if I could borrow it and he said to keep it.

The book was very interesting! I'm not going to tell you what's in it, I think you should read it and make your own judgements about it.

More About Dancing With The Stars

I really don't see how Marie is going to compete with these young girls who are dancing their brains out. They just danced a great dance! Marie will be up soon and we will see how she does. I'd like to see her have a good showing, but I think I might actually be disappointed if she stays in the running. I really don't think she is as good as the others who are left.

Dancing With The Stars

Tonight is the night to see if Marie stays on "Dancing With The Stars." She's had a rough two weeks. First she collapsed from not taking a breath after her dance, and then sadly last week she experienced the passing of her dear father. The funeral wasn't that long ago, and I don't know how she was able to learn two new dances after all that, but she's a trouper and an entertainer so I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't come out shining.

Well, they just announced that she is safe for another week. Amazing! I really didn't think she could compete with the younger girls. Either I'm wrong, or she's just so popular that the voters don't care.

Sleepy Bear

We had a great time in Las Vegas this weekend with Ted and the gang. We had the opportunity of meeting some of blogging friends, and some of the advertisers, and we learned what the advertisers what us to put in our blogs and what they don't want.

Many of the posties who attended won cool stuff. There were about four Roomba's given away, several ipods were won by lucky people, and I missed a camera by one number and the lucky one who got it was the person sitting next to me, Robyn.

There were lots of prizes and we all got a cute little bear. Ted gave me another one Tuesday when we met each other at Rawhide, in Chandler Arizona.

Kenny and Peggy and Stocks

They last day of our 15-day trip was in Rocky Hill, Connecticut with our son Kenny. Whenever we are together we work on stocks. Here we are at his computer working our our strategies.

We talk on the phone or by email everyday, doing the same thing. We mess up because one of us can't get a hold of the other one, but for the most part we are making some money.

Leaving For Postie Con Tomorrow

We are headed for Las Vegas tomorrow at about 10:00. It is a six hour drive from Phoenix, and we just made that trip less than three weeks ago. That's okay, we like to travel.

We won't be staying at Circus Circus but I know two bloggers who are staying there. Ben Sparks and my niece Robyn.

We will be staying in lowly motel room, and then with my cousin the last night.

I am really looking forward to being at the convention. We are going to have a lot of fun. And we will learn stuff too.

It will be fun seeing Ted, Ashley, and Travis again too.

Meeting Ted In Arizona

We had a wonderful night last night! We met Ted, Ashley and Travis at Rawhide, in the little "Wild West Town" of Chandler, Arizona, about 20 or 30 minutes south of Phoenix.

We enjoyed a great dinner in the dinning room of the steakhouse below. I had my favorite: salmon, and my Mike had baby back ribs. Ted was sitting next to me so I know that he had steak that looked very good. The dinning room wasn't this crowded and we practically had the place to ourselves. We had personal attention with the live music.

We strolled through the dusty streets of the little town, and enjoyed watching Ted ride the mechanical bull. You will all have a chance to see that up live and personal on the blog and probably U-tube.

Other bloggers who came were my two niece's, Kristin and Jenny and her husband Daniel, and two other Arizona bloggers, Mike and Fred. Fred's not his real name, but that's what Mike calls him.

As many of you bloggers know, Ted, Travis and Ashley have traveled from coast to coast (they are planning to go to San Francisco after Vegas) and have been collecting cans from the bloggers they meet along the way. They donate the cans to the food banks in the respective cities.

One great blogger brought 200 cans! Good for her!

Ironically enough, Mike the other blogger (not to be confused with my husband Mike) and I both brought 18 cans. We had a tie and Ted, Travis and Ashley had to rack their brains to decide who to give the Roomba to. One of us had won the little vacuum, but who?

They came up with the idea of giving it to the one who could come the closest to guessing how long Ted could stay on the bull. We got to Rawhide before the rest of the guys and had watched another man ride the bull. I didn't count how long he stayed on it but later thought it was no more than 5 or 6 seconds.

I guessed 7 seconds.

Mike the blogger really! really! really! wanted the Roomba! He was trying everything he could think of to convince me that he really needed it.

His guess was 6 seconds, and was very disappointed when Ted stayed on the bull 7 1/2 seconds! I was counting one-thousand, two-thousand etc., and came up with 9 seconds. But my Mike had an actual counter and said it was 7 1/2 seconds.

I could feel the disappointment Mike was feeling. Unbeknown to him, my Mike and I had already decided to give it to him. I had told Travis what we planned to do before Ted got on the bull.

We all had a fun night of visiting, eating, talking, and riding the bull. Well, since Ted was the only one who rode the bull I guess you'll have to ask him how much fun that was.

The guys were exhausted! They had traveled from Dallas to Albuquerque, New Mexico the day before, and then from there to Phoenix arriving later than had been planned, about 8:15 PM.

Ted didn't look that excited to ride the bull but was a good sport. And really did a good job of it as you will all see.

It was great meeting you guys! We loved it!

Ballet Dancing Cow

I couldn't help but think of our little granddaughter's, Anna, Emily, Katie, Gwinney, Ashley, and Leah, when I saw this ballerina dancing cow. These girls are between the ages of 7 and 3 and think they are all princess's and ballerina dancers. Probably will be someday too.

We have two granddaughter who are a little over a year and just turned a year. Elyse and Lydia are not quite as excited about being princess's, they are princess's in the making.

The Cow Jumped Over The Moon

Saturday morning came and Kenny said, "we're going to the cow parade today". "Cow parade" "Yep, cow parade". Mike and I didn't know what to expect. We truly thought we were going to see farmers parade their cows through the streets of Hartford, Connecticut. After all, we had just seen a tractor parade in Nauvoo. And they had real tractors and really did drive them through the town.

Well, it was the neatest cow parade we've ever seen! People are so talented and imaginative!

This cow was one of my favorites! My mother read to us as children and of course a famous story or nursery rhyme is, "The Cow Jumped Over The Moon".

Here's the cow.

Hartford's Cow Parade

Kenny took us to a cow parade in Hartford Connecticut. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the cows. We were really expecting the real deal! We walked up and down several blocks to catch them all. They were on both sides of the streets and in front of the stores. Some were even inside the stores.

15 day trip- Vermont

Kenny, Peggy, and Laura in front of the Capitol.

While Mike and I were on our trip we decided to end it by seeing Vermont. Our son Kenny lives in Connecticut, close to Hartford We only make it to the east coast about every three years, and we like taking the opportunity of visiting the New England States. They are all close in proximity and it is my goal to visit all the New England States.

We have been to many cities in Connecticut, New York City, and recently, upstate New York, Providence, Rhode Island, Boston, Massachusetts, and recently, traveled through other cities in Massachusetts. And, our recent trip ended in Montpelier, Vermont. We were right on the border of seeing New Hampshire, which was just six miles away.

We went there to see the beautiful trees with their fruit-loop colors, but we were just a few weeks two early. We were a few weeks two late a few years ago. However, I have a few pictures here that are not too shabby.

Lunch With George And Nancy

We had an enjoyable day today with George and Nancy, our Utah and Apache Junction friends. They moved from Clinton last August and have moved here permanently.

First we went to see their new home they are building. It is in the same subdivision as our other Clinton, patio home friends, Tony and Charlene.

Their new home is absolutely beautiful. Or at least the model is. Their home is in the building stage with the walls going up, and are probably already up as we speak.

After that we went to lunch at one of favorite Mexican restaurants in A.J. (Apache Junction). I was very excited because I can finally do Mexican food. I had a hard time before because my allergies included wheat and corn, and milk products which takes care of the cheese and sour cream.

But as it turns out, I can have the corn tortillas and the corn chips. I can also have the cheese and sour cream. What I lost in the process was the onions. That was sad, because I love onions, and they are in the salsa.

No problem. I dipped my corn chip into the salsa and avoided the onions. I had a chicken taco without the onions, but was disappointed because they didn't put any sour cream on it.

I ate the rice but avoided the beans, since re-fried beans are one of the beans in the bean family I can't have. They must be made from pinto beans.

All in all, it was a wonderful day. And we all enjoyed the sunshine and warmth.

More Grand Kids On The Way

We just learned a month ago that Sherri was having a baby in April, and learned just a few weeks ago that Amy is having a baby in June. We had our fingers crossed for boys for both. Of course we love little girls and can't have too many.

We called the kids tonight to wish them happy Halloween and learned that Sherri is having a girl. She and Steve have one boy, and three girls in that order, and they were trying for another boy. She and Kim were at the same doctor today and Sherri told Kim that it looks like another girl is on its way.

The day she told us she was pregnant and was trying for another boy, Mike reminded her that he and her mother had to have six kids to get that second boy. She didn't have that look on her face to say, "no, this is it, if it's a girl, we're done", so I wonder if this one's a girl whether they will try for that second boy again. We love them all. So whatever we get it a blessing.

It's too early for Amy to know what she's having so well wait and hear when she tells us.

Another Beautiful Day In Arizona

It's so beautiful here! For some reason Mike and I, well, I should say I, because he always wakes early, but where I wake between 7 and 8:00 AM in Utah, I wake every morning here at 5:30. It's very different for me. I did the same thing during the week we were in Hawaii too.

It's fun to awake with the window open and hear the song of the many birds that love it here as much as we do.

The sun is shining, it's warm, yet cool, there are people taking early morning walks through the park, and you just want to get going on your day.

October 29, 1929

You're probably too young to know what this date is famous for. So am I, except I love the stock market and know enough about it to know that that is the day of the stock market crash. That was almost 30 years ago, and thank heavens, Monday October 29, 2007 the stock market was up.

Mike and I applied for a loan today to buy one of the foreclosures here in the valley, and the loan officer was asking about our assets. I gave him the total of our stock account and then went into it for see what it really was, since it changes by the minute and Mike and I did a high-five. Our account was up $2000 since two weeks ago, and $1000 since yesterday. We were happy to say the least.

There was also a big crash in 1869. They named it Black Friday. Now we refer Black Friday to the day after Thanksgiving when we all shop till we drop. Dropping from shopping exhaustion is better than dropping out of a window. That's what happened during the 1929 stock market crash. Stock brokers literally committed suicide by jumping out the windows. Horrible! I hope we never see that day again.

Owning Another Home

You just can't own enough homes you know! Mike and I put an offer on a foreclosure here in the Phoenix area on Saturday. We met we the loan officer today and was approved for the loan, and now our Realtor Lori can take our offer to the banks (there are three loans on the home) and hopefully get our offered approved.

Foreclosures take several months to buy. The banks don't move that swiftly, and there is a steps that have to be followed. We might proud owners of a new home Dec 31, 2007 which is the date we've set for closing.

Looking Forward To Las Vegas

Robyn and I are planning to go to Las Vegas for the Convention, postie.con. I will have the opportunity of meeting Ted in person. Robyn knows him and thinks he a wonderful person. Mike and I haven't figured out yet if we are going to drive or have me fly. It would be much better if we drive, it's only a 6 hour trip from Phoenix, and I don't really want to be there without Mike, although, I would be staying with my cousin. Well, I think the way the conversations are going we are going to drive and stay in a hotel room, and see Dee Anna only one day during the weekend.

I can Hear!

I was so happy last week to learn about prednisone and that it was helping me. But the last two days have offered up the greatest revelation. I found out what is causing my ears to fill up. I would take the prednisone and my ears would start to clear or they would clear, and suddenly they would be full all over again. And then the noise level would increase again.

The last two days I have found 24 foods that I am allergic too! I only knew of 9 of those previously! That is huge!

I am especially allergic to onion and tree nuts! I have been eating onion, walnuts, and almonds everyday for years! I can have peanuts because those are legumes and not from a tree. That is good because I eat peanut butter everyday also.

I'm glad to know about the other foods too. And I was especially happy to find a few foods that I can eat that I didn't think I could. Oats and some corn. Most corn is not good for me, but for some reason I was okay with corn shells for tacos. And popcorn isn't a poison food, just a nutural food. This is really huge because popcorn and tacos are some of my favorite foods. I have to eat tacos without cheese, sour cream, or refried beans though. But that's okay. It's all good. At least I can eat them. And I can eat green chilies and taco sauce that I love, so that's good too.

Prednisone

I have really been in trouble with my ears for over a month now. I was deaf before I left on our 15-day trip, and I was really deaf the whole trip.

Mike insisted that I get into the doctor and see if there was some help for me. I decided to go to a new doctor and wanted an ENT ear nose and throat doctor. They have a long fancy name but I can't ever remember it.

He put me on prednisone and said that some meniere's patients are responsive to the medication and others are not. I think I am one of those people who is responsive, because I could tell the difference almost immediately.

If I can find help for these ears it will absolutely wonderful! And the noise level in my head is anything but manageable right now. Horrific is the word! I have a freight train and a fog horn, and a fire alarm house blast, and a million crickets in there. This is really no fun!

I Wish The Weather Would Warm Up

I need the weather to warm up for just two more weeks. It will warm up a little but won't be warm enough for me.

When the weather is cold, rainy, and snowy, like it is right now, it affects my ears. I have meneire's syndrome, and I haven't been able to hear for a month. It's really a struggle to carry in a conversation.

I sent and email to our son Mike in Idaho telling him that I'd like to tell him about our 15 day trip but that I was to deaf to hear his side of the conversation. He responded with, "Okay, I'll type louder". Cutie!

We leave for Arizona in two weeks and would leave sooner if it weren't for the many doctor appointments I have. And I wouldn't have so many doctor appointments if I just got out of here.

Ironic Huh?

Getting Things Ready To Leave For The Winter

Having a winter home and a summer home is fun, but it takes a lot of work getting the home ready to leave for six months. We will be back in a few months though. This year we are flying home for Christmas. We missed Christmas last year and it wasn't any fun being without our kids and grandchildren! We also missed our annual Christmas Party with the extended family members. We will be here for that too.

We also plan to drive to Rexburg, Idaho to see our other kids and go through the new Rexburg temple. I sure hope the weather cooperates! Nothing is worse that driving in a snow storm. Well, there might be worse things come to think about it, but it wouldn't be any fun, that's for sure.

Mark Twain

One of our favorite places to visit was Hannibal Missouri to visit all the Mark Twain memorabilia. There are several homes to visit, and they have dedicated the entire town to Samuel Clemens. I even had my picture with Mark Twain. You don't believe me! Well, I have the picture to prove it, and will put it on here as soon as I locate it on the computer.

Do you know how Mark Twain got his name. I didn't either, but while we were in Hartford, Connecticut going through his home there, the guide told us the history of his name.

Back then many writers took pen names. Of course we all knew that Mark Twain was a pen name of Samuel Clemens.

When it was suggested to him to choose a name he said he had it picked out, and chose it a long time ago.

He tell in all his stories about his river days and the time he spent on River Boats. The captain or a crew member counts the - nevermind my telling the story. Here it is from the website:

He maintained that his primary pen name came from his years working on Mississippi riverboats, where two fathoms, a depth indicating "safe water" for the boat to float over, was measured on the sounding line. A fathom is a maritime unit of depth, equivalent to two yards (six feet, approximately 1.8 metres); "twain" is an archaic term for "two". The riverboatman's cry was "mark twain" or, more fully, "by the mark twain", meaning "according to the mark [on the line], [the depth is] two [fathoms]", that is, "there are 12 feet of water under the boat and it is safe to pass".

Ray And Colleen

We had a wonderful time visiting with Mike's brother and wife on our recent trip. We would love to thank them for their hospitality, the great meals they feed us, and their great company in general. They were at work everyday we were there but offered up their home to us to eat and rest. It was wonderful.

The last night we were there we got to enjoy Mike's nephew David, his wife Linda, and daughter Lizzie also. It was a wonderful seeing them. They only live an hour any from us, but we both had to go half way across the US to see each other.

That night Colleen had a fashion show and Linda, Lizzie and I inherited part of the clothes from the show. Lizzie got a shirt, Linda got two or three shirts, and I got a jacket. Great Show Colleen!

Chicago

On our way to Kirtland we stopped for a night in Chicago with my niece Robyn. It was great being there with her family. We enjoyed Robyn and Mike and the kids, and seeing their new home.

Robyn packed up all up in her van and drove us to Chicago and showed us the town! What a town. I loved the Lake Shore Drive. It was absolutely beautiful!

We saw where Oprah film study is. Wrigley Field. Soldier Field. And the best was at the top of the Sears Tower. We were there during the evening and seeing the city from the top of the tower is amazing! We loved it! It was sad to leave the next morning, but we were on our way to Kirtland, Ohio. So much to see so little time. Even though we took 15 days to do it, we still didn't have enough time.

Holiday Shopping Promotion

Yep! It's that time of year again when we are busy thinking about holiday shopping. www.Black-Friday.net is an on-line business where you can click onto, and shop with coupons to any of your favorite stores.

You know what Black Friday is all about. That's the day after Thanksgiving when the world is turned upside down by either getting up at dawn or actually sleeping in the street to be first in line to take advantage of the sales that the major retailers around the country offer at discount prices to help kick-start the Christmas shopping season.

You don't know what will be on sale until you get your Thanksgiving Day newspaper and read all the ads in the many circulars that are enclosed in the paper. It's the largest paper of the year.

This website gives you the advantage of taking advantage of the sales early. You will see them before anyone else does and you won't have to stand in line or sleep in the streets, and you don't have to elbow your way through the stores trying to find the items you want.

I have 19 grandchildren and clicked the K.B. Toys specials and the first item is the 20 Q Electronic game for $5.99. I am not game literate so I put the words "20 Q Electronic Game" in quotations in a search engine, and guess what? It's advertised there for on sale for $19.95. Hey! I just got my own attention. Big Time!

Your on your own. I'm getting off this blog and buying some Christmas Gifts! Now!

Nauvoo Illinois

We spent three days in Nauvoo. Mike's brother Ray and wife Colleen are on a mission at the Nauvoo temple. It was wonderful spending three days with them, seeing the sights, and we went to the temple two of the days.

Ray and Colleen took us on a private tour of the temple. We road in a horse-drawn wagon through the little town, and went through some of the homes.

We also visited the Carthage jail. That was a sad but wonderful experience.

Hannibal Missouri

What a fun place to visit! We love all the Mark Twain homes etc in the town. The whole town is dedicated to Mark Twain. We loved going down to the Mississippi River and seeing the river boats. I would loved to have stayed longer and had the experience of being on a river boat. The river is only a few blocks from where Samuel Clemens grew up. It's amazing! The stories he wrote all come to life in that little town.

Everything he wrote about actually happened. He pattered Tom Sawyer's life after his own and after his friends lives. Huckleberry Finn was pattered after one boyhood friend, who really was the poorest boy in town, and who's dad really was the town drunk.

The cave is real. There really was a murder in town, and the place where it took place is marked. Oh, and Becky Thatcher's house is really right across the street from Tom Sawyer's, except the names are not the same. Samuel's dad was the judge though, not Becky's.

Having A Wonderful Time

We have seen so many fun things on our trip already.

We started our trip in Kansas City, Missouri, where we rented a car and drove to Independence, Missouri. It was late when we arrived and just had time to settle in a Motel and go out to dinner. First night and breakfast the next morning were meals at Denny's.

Then we visited the the Visitor Center, was in the Community Of Christ Auditorium, which was very beautiful, and we saw the temple, but didn't have time to go inside it. We were told by Mike's brother that it was well worth seeing. We will make sure we do that on our next trip.

We did take time to go into the Visitor Center of the Church Of Christ. We enjoyed talking to one of the apostles there.

We headed straight for the Truman Library which was very interesting! I love history, and love learning about the US Presidents. We were at the Reagan Library several years ago. That was really nice and I hope to see that one again.

We went to Liberty Jail, Farr West, and Adam ondi-Ahman and saw all the sights in that area.

Looking Forward To Our Trip

Mike and I are going on a half-month trip to the midwest and east coast. We are so excited about this trip of a life time, and feel very blessed that we are able to do it.

Mike has never been to any of the LDS Church sites. I was at Nauvoo in 1972, but that was obviously a long time ago, and it has changed drastically since then.

Mike is so cute. He has our itinerary planned out to the minutest detail. He's good at planning and I know we'll have a wonderful time.

My Diet Is Sooooo Restrictive!

I try so hard to stay on my diet, but it is so difficult! I wrote many blogs on my other blog Pegsazlife about my aching jaw. I discovered that wheat caused the problem, but when I let that go and it happened again, I realized milk products caused it. Now I realize any high sugar food will cause it.

I was so excited the last few months to find a few treats I could tolerate. One was a chocolate shake I make out of chocolate nut milk, a banana, and I add vanilla and sometimes I add strawberries.

I also found ice cream made from rice milk, and I enjoyed, but have discovered both these things along with some candy I thought I was getting away with and wasn't, all cause sinus infection.

This is very dangerous for me, because the sinus infection can become ear infection, which has caused deafness to some degree in both ears.

I hear 80 decibels below normal in my left ear, and have to wear a hearing aid, and I hear 40 decibels below normal from my right ear, and could eventually go completely deaf like my sweet uncle Jimmy did.

He had vertigo and Meiner's disease most of his life and was totally deaf in both ears most of his life. I felt so sorry for him, and now I have the same problem. I think it's caused from the same problem. Celiac Sprew.

Many patients who suffer form Celiac can have milk and sugar, but many of us have to avoid wheat, milk, sugar, and for me it's even more. I can't tolerate corn, oats, barley, well any grains except rice. I have found a few seeds that are ground into grains, such as: Teff, buckwheat, and quinau, which I've spelled wrong.

It's a tough diet to live on. People ask me what I eat and I tell them, "meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, and rice." Basically, the foods we should all be eating.

Gluten Free

Kenny has problems with foods like I have. He is gluten intolerant, but hasn't been as strict about it as I have been. He was very strict in the early 90's before I realized I had problems. Both of us would be careful and then we would cheat. I got into real trouble in April by cheating. And in fact, almost died! No more! I have been totally gluten free for about three months now.

He has been working out and not losing any weight. He decided to go off wheat and continue his workout, and is now seeing some success. He's feels much better as well.

I hope he continues to be strict about his diet. It just isn't worth to feel sick all the time.

Stocks!

Our portfolio has been jumping up and down like a roller coaster! We were down $1500 or more and now thanks to a good market today, it's going back up.

I bought more stocks during the dip, which has helped increase the value of our portfolio, and these particular stocks are expected to do really well in the future.

I also joined The Street.com. to receive their monthly newsletter on making money on penny stocks. I love penny stocks if you can get into the right one, you can make a bundle.

A penny stock is any stock under $5.00. In case you thought they were all a penny.

This is not a paid post for The Street.com. I just happen to love that website. It's Jim Cramer's website, and you know Jim's good with stocks.

Katie's Kite

The kids and I had a lot of fun flying their kites last June when I was there. We were there last weekend for a family reunion and I saw Nick's and Katie's kites hanging in their rooms. I just had to get pictures of the kites.

Katie named her kite Peggy after me. Sweet Huh?

Here we are flying her kite.

Nick's Kite

Nick's kite now hangs in his room.

Poor Nick! Mike worked so hard trying to get Nick's kite to fly, but to no avail. I finally got Nick to come and fly Katie's kite. He did have a good time after that. Until the wind caught it and it flew away that is.

The unbelievable thing was - just minutes before it took flight, Nick had asked me what would happen if he let go of the string. I told him that the wind would just take it away and it would just keep going.

I think he asked the question because the wind was so strong that he knew it could happen. It did! Within seconds of it flying off, Nick started screaming! I was sitting on the ground right next to him and Katie, but Katie nor I could console him. He was bereft!

Mike yelled at him to quit screaming. He thought Katie and Nick were fighting over the kite. I explained to Mike what happened, and we got Nick quieted down, and Andrew was over the fence in no time getting the "Peggy" out of the tree next door.

Mike hung Nick's kite in his bedroom, right over his bed. It looks really cool there, and they went to the store the next day and got him a good kite.

"Old Faithful"

Part of our Idaho/Wyoming trip was to go to Yellowstone Park. And of course you never go to JellyStone Park without watching the splendid Old Faithful spew her 10,000 gallons of water into the air.

It was disappointing this trip because the weather was not nice! It rained, and the wind blew, and we even had hail for a few minutes. Have you ever notice that hail always only lasts a few minutes?

We sat in the Old Faithful Lodge for more than an hour waiting, and luckily the rain stopped just long enough for us to brave the rain, lightening, and thunder and be as up-close-and-personal as the rail allows.

The normally gorgeous and spectacular spray was disappointing because it was against a gray sky, didn't go as high as I've seen in the past, and the wind was blowing and sent the water all over the place instead of straight up. The average height is 130 to 184 feet high. I think it was one of those 130 feet times.

We had my daughter Cari and my nephew Stephen with us, and they weren't the least bit disappointed! This was Cari's first time. Actually, it's her second time there but the first time she was only two, and she has no memory of it.

Stephen has been there before, but said he hadn't been there for 18 years.

All in all it was a wonderful day! The weather allowed us to walk around the hot pots or pools, and to walk around Jenny Lake, which is one of our favorite lakes in the world.

The rain was spotty and for the most part, the day was beautiful!

Family Reunion

We just spent the nicest weekend with our 30 immediate family members, our own children and grandchildren, in Rexburg Idaho.

Mike and Susan have a beautiful home on almost two acre's where Amy and Lisa pitched tents for their families to sleep in. The rest of us slept inside. They have five bedrooms. There is a sixth bedroom that is being used as a food storage room.

We arrived Friday night, had dinner, enjoyed the hot tub, (adults only) played Boxers and Briefs, as fun game until midnight, and called it a night.

Saturday after breakfast we drove up to the temple. Mike and Susan moved to Idaho a few months ago. Mike, works at the new LDS Rexburg Temple, and we had the opportunity of going to the temple site where he showed us around. We went into a trailer where the missionaries explain things to interested parties. There are pictures showing the temple from the beginning of construction, and we were given many interesting facts concerning construction and the inspiration that was given the Prophet that it should be placed in the spot where it is.

Afterward, we went to the splash park that is in the middle of town, and is free! The kids had a wonderful time playing in the water, and riding the merry-go-round.

We ate pizza and donuts, and after having a wonderful day, the kids all started for home.

Mike and I, and Cari and Stephen stayed that night and then drove to Yellowstone Park the next day.

Girls Night Out

Once a month or so the four girls: Chris, Sherri, Amy, Lisa, and a fifth: my niece Heather, who is like one of their sisters, have a get-together.

Sometimes they go out of town and stay over night at Park City, other times they stay at home, and spend the day or evening together rather than sleep over.

I am so very happy that they love to get together often, and that they are good friends and love each other so much!

Sinus Infection

After trying for a week to figure out why my jaw aches I've finally decided it is due to a mild sinus infection. I've experienced this many times in my life when I have a cold, and I knew I didn't have a cold this time.

I finally started using my homeopathic drops I buy from Dr. Whetton, and used them for three to five times a day for four days and my jaw finally relaxed! The condition is not completely better, but it has improved.

Genealogy

I love doing genealogy! I've spent the past 13 years doing it. For the past week I've added names to Mike's family line of King's and Queen's, that go back to the 1100's. This are the Plantagenet family. King Henry, Edward, of England.

It's very exciting when you connect your family to members of Royalty. We all come from there. It's just fun to find the connection.

I need to go to the library and make a disc to send to John and Karen in Hawaii. I had one for them when we went to Hawaii, but two of the discs didn't work. I would have had that done by now, but just didn't feel well enough to do it. I still don't, but I'm going to get over there and get it done.

I'll be glad when I can get back to Dr. Zone to see what the blood test shows. I certainly hope he can help me get well.

Candida Yeast Infection

For several days now I've had pain in my jaw. My jaw is tense and I can't seem to relax it. I did the exercise that I found on the web yesterday concerning clenching ones teeth, about 5 times, and once just before going to bed.

I ate 2 wheat tortillas two nights in a row, and wonder if the problem is more related to candida yeast infection rather than attributing it to clenching my teeth at night.

Doctor Whetton gave me drops to put under my tongue for candida yeast infection. The foods I'm allergic to, and sugar cause it. I ate a lot of sugar last week during our ski trip.

The pain has subsided in my jaw this morning, and my face is more relaxed. I'm taking the medicine this morning, just in case candida is the problem. I think it probably is.

I've written this note in several of the preceding blogs, but wheat and sugars are responsible for me to clench my teeth.

My 24 hour Bug

Dee Anna shared her bug.

I felt fine the whole time we were there and the whole day driving home. We unpacked, put everything away, and I worked on my blog for a while.

At 10 PM I realized I was sick. I needed to throw up but didn't have the strength to go do it. Later I had diarrhea, and finally by 6:00 AM I had the strength to get rid of what was in my stomach.

I was very weak all day long. I didn't have the aches and pains that Dee Anna said she had, but I had every other symptom.

The following day I was well. Well, not 100%, but I did exactly everything I wanted to do.

I had enough strength to clean our drawers, cupboards, and closets, along with 2 batches of clothes, changed the sheets on the bed, cleaned the bathroom, and blogged!

I cleaned the kitchen, and I'm telling you, for just getting over the flu, I sure accomplished a lot!

Dee Anna and her 24 hour Bug

We had a wonderful time in Arizona and a nice visit with Dee Anna, Hughie, and Dee.

Dee looks great! Last time we saw him he had just gotten out of the hospital. He has recuperated nicely. He looked much stronger, and all around healthier.

Dee Anna however, was not healthy. She had just come down with the flu before we got there. I was sorry that we were there having her worry about feeding us. She just needed to get to bed.

The next morning it was mostly gone. It was luckily just a 24 hour bug.

She had enough strength to go shopping. We went to an LDS bookstore for a book she wanted to buy for a few friends.

We went to four stores for me. I wanted to buy an exercise ball, but they were very expensive. $25 at Sports Authority and $40 at Big Five. We gave up on that.

We went to Trader Joe's to find gluten free French rolls that Kenny buys in Connecticut. But they didn't have them.

We went to a cosmetic store and finally I was successful in buying what I went in for.

The food Hughie and Dee Anna served was delicious as usual! Mike and I wanted to take them out to dinner, but she didn't feel up to eating out.

Next trip I'd like to fix them dinner or bring in a take out they like.

Moving Rocks

Maybe I should move the rocks in my head before I go to the neighbors and start shoveling their rocks.

Robyn asked me what that means. I explained that I must have rocks in my head, to go to an empty lot and start shoveling rocks. But that's what we're doing.

Actually, I asked permission, and secondly, I'm not shoveling any rocks, Mike is! We live in Arizona and have no grass, but rather lots of gravel. Last spring we planted quite a few plants, and a pigmy palm tree, but the yard still looks dismal!

We had a nice ficus tree that got caught in the freeze that killed lots of ficus trees and a lot of citrus in the valley last winter. Mike chopped the dead ficus tree down yesterday in our 112 degree weather. He was dripping wet.

Last night we, okay he, raked the gravel away in six spots so we can add more rocks and gravel in place of where the gravel was and then spread the gravel back on top. We are attempting to make small hills in the yard, where plants, and boulders will be placed around. I want to make a different elevation. I don't know if we know what we're doing, we might end up calling Hector who works in the park, and does a beautiful job of it.

Either way, the end result should be nice.

We're Back In Arizona Again

We must be crazy!!!! It's a 110 /116 degrees here. It is cooling off thought. It will be a nice 105 in the next few days.

We wanted to come back to check and see how our home and yard, particularly the new plants that we planted in April just before we left.

It was a good thing we came because the line to the drip system split and water was gushing where it wasn't supposed to gush, and nothing was going to the plants.

Our Gardenia bush died. That wasn't a surprise. I expected to lose it even if it got water. They require lots of water and lots of shade, and they don't like hot weather. It didn't get anything it wanted.

We have two Gardenia plants, and the other one is doing well because it is under the neighbor's tree, and she waters it.

We are only staying a week, and will leave here on Monday, spend a few days in Vegas with Dee Anna, and then head home.

I love Blogging

This last blog was my first paid opp on my new blog, Enuf Kids 10. It felt great. I have been working for a four months or more to get it going. And now it is up and running.

I had three comments on the blog, "Ben's Kite." I thought that was really exciting! When you have a brand new blog, and find people are already visiting it, it is exciting.

I have had a busy day on this computer blogging. It need to get off and get some food into this body!

The last opp I took on my other blog, Pegsazlife, was on eating good, and staying healthy. I think I'd better pay attention to what I tell other people.

Ben's Kite Was A Dragon!

Ben had a great time flying his kite. Andrew was a sweet brother and spent the whole time getting Ben and Katie's kites out of the trees, and back into the air.

Ben's kite is probably hanging in his room. We didn't go downstairs to Ben's room. We'll have to do that next trip, so we can get a close-up picture of his kite.

They had a really fun day, and Ben was right back out there the next morning flying his kite, Katie saw him and went right back out there again too. It was colder that day. I wanted to be out there with them, but had to watch from the window. It even wrapped myself up in a blanket, but returned to the house.

The Kite Named "Peggy"

Here's Katie and I flying her bird kite. She named it "Peggy" after me. I thought that was pretty cool!

Sunday morning found her out in the field flying her kite again. I wanted to be out with the kids, but it was way too cold for me.

Idaho is colder than Utah, and the wind blows constantly! I finally warmed up after we left.

We planned on going to church with them, at 1:00, but I had a tummy ache, and threw-up what little I had in there. Ben had a tummy ache too, and I figured we both caught a flu.

Mike and I left for home at the same time they pulled out to go to church.

Katie's kite named Peggy now hangs in her room.

Enjoyed Idaho

It was a short trip. We arrived in Idaho Friday afternoon. Mike and I were so excited because we were showing up in a new car. We called Susan on the cell phone when we got to within a mile of their home. She said she was in the road and was watching for us. I was shocked when she waved us in to the driveway, and didn't even notice the car was new.

She said, "well, I knew you had a gold car. . . . ." No, I said, "our car is red."

We spent the first few minutes showing both of them the car, and then we went in to see their beautiful home.

That evening we had dinner with four of Mike's friends. Actually, one friend who he worked with a the Bountiful Temple, who brought his wife, and they were in Rigby, only 10 miles away, visiting friends of theirs. So they all came to dinner and it was very nice.

The weather was very nice on Saturday. We drove around Rexburg. Mike showed us the temple, and BYU Idaho. Then we looked for the wedding place, that was the house my uncle was born in. I swear we drove around every block 10 times. What was supposed to be easy, wasn't!

I thought I knew which house it was but, after I called Dee Anna and emailed her the picture, she said that was the wrong house.

Mike went to Wal Mart and bought the kids kites. We went back home and Mike and My Mike (well, they are both my Mike's) anyway, they put them together and we headed out to fly them.

What a ball we had! It was really great!

Melody's Birthday

We have had a string of birthdays while we've been back in Utah! Four days from now is my sister Melody's turn. Sharon and I would like to get together with Doug and Melody, and our brother Mike, and go out to dinner.

Melody thinks that would be nice, and I hope we get it planned. We are all so busy, some plans are just that, plans. If it doesn't get done around her birthday, I'm going to try and do something when we get back from Arizona, in three weeks.

Idaho Trip - Tomorrow

The day has finally come! We've been talking about this for about three months now. We will be in Rexburg tomorrow, to see the family.

One thing I really want to do is look for my uncle Dee's home where he was born. It is right in the middle of town, and is now being used as a wedding place named, "White Elegance."

I've told Mike to look for it, because uncle Dee says it is easy to find, but Mike hasn't had time yet. It's on the list, we'll see it soon.

Idaho Trip Soon

Mike and I are planning to take a trip to Idaho next week. It has only been a few weeks since we saw them last, but it will be nice to see them. I saw Susan and the kids the day they left to move to Idaho, but I haven't seen Mike since Mother's Day.

We will make another tip there in August some time for a whole family reunion. What a ball that will be!

There home is large, and sits on almost 2 acres. There is a chicken coop, and a horse stall. Not really a barn from what I've heard. They keep changing their minds on whether or not to have a horse. They cost a lot of money, and they cost a lot of money to keep healthy. For right now I think the answer is no.

There driveway is huge! Susan showed Kim and I pictures of the home on the computer, and it looks like the whole family can park in the driveway.

Ingram's Have Moved

Mike has been living in Rexburg, Idaho now for about a month. Susan and the kids finished packing things up, and moved the day after school let out.

Mike and I went down and helped a little by packing the large moving trailer they bought from one of the neighbors.

I felt so sorry for Andrew. His best friend Codiac, was standing there watching us doing the last minute things. I'd had heard his name a million times before, but had never met him. I seriously, thought I was talking to a girl. His hair is long! Well, I guess you can see that. Mike told me when we drove away - that he thought he was a girl also.

Poor Andrew. I hope - no I know - he will make lots of friends in Idaho!
