Chicago

On our way to Kirtland we stopped for a night in Chicago with my niece Robyn. It was great being there with her family. We enjoyed Robyn and Mike and the kids, and seeing their new home.

Robyn packed up all up in her van and drove us to Chicago and showed us the town! What a town. I loved the Lake Shore Drive. It was absolutely beautiful!

We saw where Oprah film study is. Wrigley Field. Soldier Field. And the best was at the top of the Sears Tower. We were there during the evening and seeing the city from the top of the tower is amazing! We loved it! It was sad to leave the next morning, but we were on our way to Kirtland, Ohio. So much to see so little time. Even though we took 15 days to do it, we still didn't have enough time.

Holiday Shopping Promotion

Yep! It's that time of year again when we are busy thinking about holiday shopping. www.Black-Friday.net is an on-line business where you can click onto, and shop with coupons to any of your favorite stores.

You know what Black Friday is all about. That's the day after Thanksgiving when the world is turned upside down by either getting up at dawn or actually sleeping in the street to be first in line to take advantage of the sales that the major retailers around the country offer at discount prices to help kick-start the Christmas shopping season.

You don't know what will be on sale until you get your Thanksgiving Day newspaper and read all the ads in the many circulars that are enclosed in the paper. It's the largest paper of the year.

This website gives you the advantage of taking advantage of the sales early. You will see them before anyone else does and you won't have to stand in line or sleep in the streets, and you don't have to elbow your way through the stores trying to find the items you want.

I have 19 grandchildren and clicked the K.B. Toys specials and the first item is the 20 Q Electronic game for $5.99. I am not game literate so I put the words "20 Q Electronic Game" in quotations in a search engine, and guess what? It's advertised there for on sale for $19.95. Hey! I just got my own attention. Big Time!

Your on your own. I'm getting off this blog and buying some Christmas Gifts! Now!

Nauvoo Illinois

We spent three days in Nauvoo. Mike's brother Ray and wife Colleen are on a mission at the Nauvoo temple. It was wonderful spending three days with them, seeing the sights, and we went to the temple two of the days.

Ray and Colleen took us on a private tour of the temple. We road in a horse-drawn wagon through the little town, and went through some of the homes.

We also visited the Carthage jail. That was a sad but wonderful experience.

Hannibal Missouri

What a fun place to visit! We love all the Mark Twain homes etc in the town. The whole town is dedicated to Mark Twain. We loved going down to the Mississippi River and seeing the river boats. I would loved to have stayed longer and had the experience of being on a river boat. The river is only a few blocks from where Samuel Clemens grew up. It's amazing! The stories he wrote all come to life in that little town.

Everything he wrote about actually happened. He pattered Tom Sawyer's life after his own and after his friends lives. Huckleberry Finn was pattered after one boyhood friend, who really was the poorest boy in town, and who's dad really was the town drunk.

The cave is real. There really was a murder in town, and the place where it took place is marked. Oh, and Becky Thatcher's house is really right across the street from Tom Sawyer's, except the names are not the same. Samuel's dad was the judge though, not Becky's.

Having A Wonderful Time

We have seen so many fun things on our trip already.

We started our trip in Kansas City, Missouri, where we rented a car and drove to Independence, Missouri. It was late when we arrived and just had time to settle in a Motel and go out to dinner. First night and breakfast the next morning were meals at Denny's.

Then we visited the the Visitor Center, was in the Community Of Christ Auditorium, which was very beautiful, and we saw the temple, but didn't have time to go inside it. We were told by Mike's brother that it was well worth seeing. We will make sure we do that on our next trip.

We did take time to go into the Visitor Center of the Church Of Christ. We enjoyed talking to one of the apostles there.

We headed straight for the Truman Library which was very interesting! I love history, and love learning about the US Presidents. We were at the Reagan Library several years ago. That was really nice and I hope to see that one again.

We went to Liberty Jail, Farr West, and Adam ondi-Ahman and saw all the sights in that area.

Looking Forward To Our Trip

Mike and I are going on a half-month trip to the midwest and east coast. We are so excited about this trip of a life time, and feel very blessed that we are able to do it.

Mike has never been to any of the LDS Church sites. I was at Nauvoo in 1972, but that was obviously a long time ago, and it has changed drastically since then.

Mike is so cute. He has our itinerary planned out to the minutest detail. He's good at planning and I know we'll have a wonderful time.

My Diet Is Sooooo Restrictive!

I try so hard to stay on my diet, but it is so difficult! I wrote many blogs on my other blog Pegsazlife about my aching jaw. I discovered that wheat caused the problem, but when I let that go and it happened again, I realized milk products caused it. Now I realize any high sugar food will cause it.

I was so excited the last few months to find a few treats I could tolerate. One was a chocolate shake I make out of chocolate nut milk, a banana, and I add vanilla and sometimes I add strawberries.

I also found ice cream made from rice milk, and I enjoyed, but have discovered both these things along with some candy I thought I was getting away with and wasn't, all cause sinus infection.

This is very dangerous for me, because the sinus infection can become ear infection, which has caused deafness to some degree in both ears.

I hear 80 decibels below normal in my left ear, and have to wear a hearing aid, and I hear 40 decibels below normal from my right ear, and could eventually go completely deaf like my sweet uncle Jimmy did.

He had vertigo and Meiner's disease most of his life and was totally deaf in both ears most of his life. I felt so sorry for him, and now I have the same problem. I think it's caused from the same problem. Celiac Sprew.

Many patients who suffer form Celiac can have milk and sugar, but many of us have to avoid wheat, milk, sugar, and for me it's even more. I can't tolerate corn, oats, barley, well any grains except rice. I have found a few seeds that are ground into grains, such as: Teff, buckwheat, and quinau, which I've spelled wrong.

It's a tough diet to live on. People ask me what I eat and I tell them, "meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, and rice." Basically, the foods we should all be eating.
